How does downstream/upstream switch/router know which is active firewall after failover/failback in Active/passive mode?

Depending on HA configuration the interfaces of Passive Firewall will be either Shutdown or in Auto Mode where interface will be up and downstream device will learn about failover by GARP for IPv4:
