Does anyone think of mac address based firewall policies?

Apparently yes.
There's an existing feature request for this : ID 889
Ability to filter traffic by mac address by allowing the administrator to add mac address as part of the Security Policy matching criteria.
Please reach out to your local SE and have him add your vote to the request.
