Multicast - troubleshooting

Any tips/advice how to test multicast? Should I be able to do a ping from a firewall interface included in the Interface Group to a multicast address as a test?

Also from Runtime Stats on the VR, I do not see anything showing under the Multicast -> IGMP -> Multicast - I thought I would, but maybe I am wrong thinking this

Hi @clewis1 ,

I know on a Cisco device pinging the multicast group works well.  I assume it works the same on Palo Alto.

With regard to group membership, do the following apply?

  1. Are there multicast receivers on the subnet connected to the interface?
  2. Has the multicast application been installed on those receivers?
  3. Has the correct version of IGMP been configured on the NGFW interface?
  4. If you configured group permissions for the interface, does it include the groups you want?

If the answer to those questions is "Yes,"  then you should see group members.

Thanks,

Tom
