Pan-OS 6.0 Download fails on 5050

L1 Bithead

I have a PA-5050 and ran the "check now" for software.  I am on version 5.0.10 and the only version I see for 6 is 6.0.1  (do not see 6.0.0)

When I try to download this version I get the following error message:

Details:  Successfully downloaded

               Preloading into software manager

The required 6.0 base image mist be loaded before this image can be loaded.......etc...

Failed to load into software manager.  Please retry.

               Post processing failed. Please retry.

After this prompt the file I downloaded is not on the firewall.  Is anyone else having this problem and if so, did you have to use the "install from file" option for 6.0.0 first?  Once you do that will all of the newer version 6 releases show up or did you have to manually install them as well?  I am upgrading this weekend and want to prepare for any downloads I need so I would appreciate any information.  Thanks.

When upgrading to a new major release, you'd have to download the new baseline first. So in this case you'd need PAN OS v6.0.0 in the device (even if you don't install it) and then download and install PAN OS v6.0.1 or v6.0.x

You ought to be able to see PAN OS v6.0.0 through the same check now, since you can see PAN OS v6.0.1 however, if there is a problem. perhaps you can try the upload file PAN OS v 6.0.0 manually?

HI PKO,

You need following steps for successful upgrade to 6.0.1.

1. Download 6.0.0

2. Download 6.0.1

3. Install 6.0.1

Its a regular process to upgrade on major release. Let us know for more questions.

If you don't see it in the GUI, SSH into the device and write " request system software download version 6.0.0"

Download 6.0.1 and install 6.0.1 afterwards.

That should be it.

If you are unable to access 6.0.0 base code from your firewall directly you can always download the image by going to support.paloaltonetworks.com and selecting software updates.  Wait for the page to load and then select your platform in the filter box that is near the top left-hand corner of the page.  Select download and wait for it to finish.   Then go to your firewall and go to the Devices --> Software tab.  Select upload file and upload the file you just downloaded.  After it has been uploaded select install from file then install it.  Do not reboot and then try to download 6.0.X and try and install it.

Here is the output from the log:

Sep 19 11:15:46 Error: pan_mgmtop_finish_download_software(pan_ops_common.c:6216): Successfully downloaded

Sep 19 11:15:46 Preloading into software manager

Sep 19 11:15:46 Error: pan_mgmtop_post_process_swimage(pan_ops_common.c:6105): Preloading into software manager

Sep 19 11:16:31 Successfully loaded into software manager

Sep 19 11:16:31 Error: pan_mgmtop_post_process_swimage(pan_ops_common.c:6133): Successfully loaded into software manager

Actually found the problem, thanks for the commands, everything is showing up.

how..? Smiley Happy

Actually rather embarrassing - there was a 5 in the filter at the top of the page and the filter looks at all characters in every field not just the version number.  Only 6.0.1 showed up because it has a 251 MB download, version 6 would not show up as none of the fields have a 5 in them.  It failed to download since it was there but hidden from view, cleared the filter and downloaded 6.0.0 through gui and downloaded fine...think I need some vacation time when I don't notice something like that.

Hi PKO,

You are not the only one. Exact same thing happened with me once Smiley Happy
