Panorama Objects defined in ancestors will take higher precedence.

i am unable to understand Objects defined in ancestors will take higher precedence.  what does it mean?

 

i read the admin guide but still unable to understand

 

any help is appreciated?

Let's assume the following devicegroup hierarchy:

 - Shared

      - Parent device group

            - Child device group

 

When you now have an object named "testobject" in bothe the parent and child device group but with different IP addresses. If you enable this setting the IP address of the object in the parent device group will be used when you push the configurarion to the firewall instead of the one in the child device group.
