Policy Optimizer Panorama in Management Mode

L4 Transporter

Can Policy Optmizer be used in Panorama running PanOS 9.0 or 9.1 in Management only mode for firewalls running PanOS8.1 ?

I could not find information on how the Policy Optimizer works under the hood. Does it look at the actual traffic logs or do the firewall create statistics, which are sent to Panorama?

@batd2,

As long as the firewall is running PAN-OS 8.1 or higher, the Policy Optimizer will function from Panorama without issue.

@BPry Thanks for the response. Can you please elaborate more on how the optimizer works, if logs are not sent to panorama? Do you know of any KBs explaining that?

Can someone help? The question is how does the Policy Optimiser actually evaluates the used applications. Does it look at the local panorama logs or does it use some type of summary statistics sent from the firewall?

I tried to Lab test with Panorama 9 in management only mode and PanOS8.1 firewalls, which does not forward logs and it does not seem to work, but I may be doing something wrong and I  could not find any details in the documentation.

Did you ever solve this?  I am experiencing the same issue on 10.2 H2, policy functions are enabled on managed firewall (and works locally on firewall) but not in panorama
