Is anyone using solar winds to monitor their PA firewall?

Many customers are. Import PANOS SNMP MIB and have fun with it.

I see so do they get useful information? We already have several syslog server collecting information off the PA.

Thanks I will take a look at these

Hi Janelle

That kind of depends what information is useful to you

The syslog servers will most likely be receiving traffic/threat related logs and possibly some system logs (alarms, admin logins, ...).

SNMP would provide you with system metrics including temperature, fan speeds, cpu usage, interface counters etc. and is more commonly used to graph out system performance. to keep an eye on your cpu gauge or bandwidth traversing the firewall

Very good point. I do not manage solarwinds so I guess it is based on what they want to see. I can see quite a lot. I added a trap using version v2c but I havent' added any MIB's or anything so I would suppose it is  a very limited infomation

Right now I am on 6.1 so if I load the MIB's for 6.1 and then upgrade to 7 do I have to upgrade the MIB's separately?

How do you apply the MIB's and I am only planning on using snmp traps nothing else
