Symantec NetBackup

L2 Linker

I have been searching for an application or applications that cover Symantec NetBackup communications. I have not been able to find anything. Anyone running NetBackup (versions 6.x or 7.x) traffic over a PAN firewall? What applications does the PAN identify (or not)?

Hi,

It's most likely identified as unknown-tcp. I don't see that covered in applipedia database. You can submit an application request through our website listed below. You can also involve your sales team to push your feature request forward.

In order to troubleshoot one can setup the srczone/srcip/dstzone/dstip/service (which are proto/port) and then set appid to any.

This should display in the traffic log how the PA identifies this traffic when you search for dstip/port, use then this appid (if it looks legit) as allowed appid for this particular rule (replace the appid:any to appid:whateverappidwasfound).

Regarding Symantec NetBackup isnt "backup-exec" (which exists as appid) close to the same thing?
