Traffic flow when QoS max hit

L3 Networker

Hi All,

What happens to the traffic flow, when a QoS maximum is hit?

Do the packets being to be dropped, or are they backed up, either in an internal Queue ( and if so, what is the size of that queue ),

or are they rate limited so the client/proxy sending the traffic queues itself?

The overflow packets get queued up based on their Class Priority, like Class1 is real time and Class8 is best effort. Let say if you have all ineteresting class1 traffic coming up so class 8 traffci had to wait in queue until it passthru or timeout.

Not sure what you mean when you say QoS Max hit. Can you give a quick example of your QoS profile so that we can provide you with an accurate answer.

Thanks

So for example, I set that youtube is allowed 10% of the available internet bandwidth.

What happens when youtube comsumes that 10%, to traffic over and above that 10% that is trying to use youtube?

Do users not get connected at all?

Does traffic become queued on the appliance, and then passed through as it can allocate time?

Does the appliance not queue, but the client end handle this itself?
