User names not showing in logs, but do show when writing rules

Not applicable

I have a PA500 running version 4.0.5 and a PAN-agent running 3.1.2AD.

I see the pan-agent working and connected to the PA-500 when I run the "show user pan-agent statistics"  it says I have hundreds of users and all my groups and IP's in the output of that command.

However, when I go to monitor the traffic log or any log for that matter, no users show up.

If I create new policy, I can specify any user from the pulldown list.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank You!

Have you looked at the "Zones"?  There is a check box for "enable User ID". This happens to everybody at least once.

If this is not the solution, try these CLI commands to see if your FW has the group and user information and then open a case with support.

show user pan-agent statistics
- Displays the following fields and info...
- AgentName | IPAddress | Port | Vsys | State | Users | Grps | IPs | Activity | Timers | Domain

show user ip-user-mapping ip 10.16.0.119

IP address:  10.16.0.119
User:        paloalto\skrall
Ident. By:   AD
Idle Timeout: 507s
Max. TTL:    507s
Groups that user belong to (used in policy)

debug device-server reset pan-agent all
- Reset the "FW to agent" connection
debug deviceserver dump user-group name ?
- Displays all AD groups
debug deviceserver dump user-group name "domain\group"
- Dispays all users in this group

Missed the checkbox in the zone - works perfectly now.  Thank You.
