If you are using single gateway, single portal and no HIP checks, you will not need it.

It basically means you want to use same device as portal and gateway. Hope this helps. Thank you.

If firewall is acting as both gateway and portal. And you are not using HIP. And you dont want to use android or apple phone to connect with Gateway than you dont need license.

But if you intend to use HIP or android or apple phones than you need license.

Below are the scenarios when Global Protect Portal and Gateway licenses are required.

The GlobalProtect Portal license is required when:

• Using HIP
• Configuring multiple gateways
• Configuring internal gateway

The GlobalProtect Gateway license is required when:

• Using HIP
• Using iOS or Android mobile app
