What kind of speed should I expect from client VPN connections?

We are looking at a new PA 5250. We currently have a PA 5050 for testing. Last night I was getting about 70mbit/sec on my home cable modem. I can get 300mbit/sec without the VPN. A really old Cisco ASA was giving me about 30mbit/sec.

Any thoughts on the above performance? Can it be turned to be better? This was on a brand new MacBook with Sierra.

Tough to say, some things to consider/try below:

• Are you routing all traffic through the VPN?  It might impact performance
• For comparision, Try testing out the MAC built-in VPN instead of GlobalProtect.
  
  • On Mac, go to System Preferences
  • Click Network
  • Click +
    
    • Interface: VPN
    • VPN Type: Cisco IPSec
    • Service Name: VPN Test
  • Enter the Server Address, Account Name, and Password
    • Click "Authentication settings"
    • Put XAuth settings in the Shared Secret and Group Name fields.
