Hi there,

The Agent Unique ID is generated when the agent is installed. It is generated from the UUID of the machine that the agent is installed on.

While the Traps Agent records the serial number of the primary disk device, a change of this doesn't trigger a regeneration of the Agent Unique ID:

So to answer when the Agent Unique ID could change:

  • VM migration e.g. you move/copy the VMs location and you create a new UUID rather than keeping the old one.
  • Mainboard/BIOS replacement
  • SMBIOS fail e.g. The UUID is stored here and meant to be unique and constant however some hardware vendors are not perfect 😉
  • SMBIOS manipulation e.g. using a utility to change the UUID stored in BIOS

Basically anytime the Machine UUID changes, the Agent Unique ID will change. Hope this helps and hasn't confused the matter.

Kind regards.

No problems and glad to have been able to help. Thanks also for marking the solution as correct - very much appreciated 🙂

While you are saying "Basically anytime the Machine UUID changes, the Agent Unique ID will change" that means when cloning a virtual machine with a already installed Traps Agent, this will change the agents Unique-ID automatically (when? On StartUp? On ServiceStart? While doing Sysprep?) because the clone has a different UUID - correct?

So there is no "cleanup action" required (for instance delete the agents unique-ID from registry) on the template before shutting it down - correct?

Thx!
