CNSE Exam Study Guide Rev B - Pass Mark

I am cracking on with study for the CNSE exam but on reading the latest release of the study guide have got a bit confused regarding the pass mark.

In the Rev B of the study guide the pass mark is shown as 60% but in the original release it was set at 100 questions in 2.5 hours with a pass mark of 70%.

Has it been reduced?

The FAQs on the education schedule are still for the old 3.1 exam as show 60 questions rather than 100 so just trying to see where the bar has been set prior to walking into the exam.

On another note how have people found the new 4.1 exam?  - i know my stuff just suck when it comes to sitting in the exam room!!!

I know there was a partner promotion that dealt with getting a PA-200.

Re the cert - really not sure - i have a feeling it is just the pdf version.

Hello Gents~

To clarify, the promotion with the PA-200 has ended. The certificates are sent out in soft-copy format, because they are generated on the fly. This allows you to print the certificate out using whatever means and paper you wish; also, the email containing the certificate also contains the CNSE logo file, for use on business cards and such. There is not a CNSE shirt that is sent upon exam completion, as is the case with the ACE exam. Instead, an engineer who successfully completes the CNSE exam will receive a Certified Network Security Engineer backpack.

As I have been preparing for the CNSE I have observed that there are several documents referenced in the official "Study Guide" that flat-out don't exist... a prime example would be https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/docs/DOC-1163, which resolves to a 404.  Unfortunately, in the Study Guide, it says of this document, "There are two docs, read the one titled 'How to configure an IPSEC VPN' - there are a number of questions on IPSec, you should definitely follow this doc to configure a tunnel."  Great advice, but the freaking document doesn't bloody exist!  The title of it in the Study Guide is "Tech Note - How to configure site2site IPSec 4.0.pdf"  If anyone can find that, please let me know.  😉

FYI, DOC-1163 is officially titled "How to Configure and Troubleshoot IPSec VPNs"... sounds like the kind of doc one would want to read in preparation for the CNSE.  *sigh*

the CNSE exam based on the X.1 Version, the 6.1 is not release at the moment. So 5.1.

As long as you have solid, real-world experience with PAN-OS, including dynamic routing (e.g. BGP and/or OSPF), good networking fundamentals, and know the product line well, you should be able to get by with reading the design recommendation guides a couple of times, spending some time on the GUI, and reading-up on Panorama.  That's basically what I did.  Mind you, I have installed a couple of dozen PA boxes because I work for a VAR, so my experience is a bit unfair compared to someone who's married to a single install.
