Disk space & OS upgrades

L4 Transporter

I regularly update the OS to the next recommended version every other month, and I was wondering if there was anything that has to be done  to clean up the hard drive so as not to run out of space?

So I don't need to delete them because they are not downloaded and on my box?

The thing is I know some of the 6.x.x release I did download and install, but it does not appear that they can be deleted.

Correct 🙂 p.s interesting. Not sure how this happens. Just checking my LAB device, once its downloads it stays there unless l delete it. Or maybe l am missing something

So what about the version that I did download and isntall that no longer show downloaeded

If it's currently installed you won't have an option to delete the image since you need it. If you don't have the image installed corrently and it has been downloaded you should get an option to delete it. I don't believe that the install process ever deletes old software versions but maybe it does during one of the major updates?

That's what I thought would be the case as well but I see previous version that i had downloaded and installed at one point but now I am on a higher OS version that do not give me the option to delete. I want to free up some space and I thought this would be an easy method but so far it has not worked out that way.

You could take a look at how many named configs you have saved if you are trying to free up some space. Some admins with save named all the time and never delete them and they start to build up a little bit.

I don't believe I have done any of that I usually export the named config to another location. But what would I need to do to check and see if there are any?

If you log into the CLI and do a show config saved  ? It will list the saved configs that you have and you can delete them with the same command as long as you include the filename that you actually want to delete. These files aren't generally that large but if you have a lot of them they can chew up diskspace.

I did a show config saved and this is what I got

jprovine@sis-pamgt(active)> show config saved

Invalid syntax.

Press TAB. But l dont think it takes a lot of space:

> delete debug-log mp-log file *.3
> delete debug-log mp-log file *.old
> debug ike pcap delete
