physical m500s to VM panOS

L0 Member

I'm wanting to migration from physical m500s to VM panOS.

Are we able to connect a physical to VM and have HA be sync'd?

Otherwise would the recommendation be to setup new VMs has with ha, have the the FWs re-point to the new VM panorama's for management

Hi @suvigeorge ,

Both the firewalls in an HA pair must be of the same hardware model or virtual machine model. Check out techdocs for migrating from a M-series appliance to Panorama VM

@suvigeorge,

Just wanted to verify that you're on the right track with deploying the VM replacements. You would want to get them configured and export the existing configuration for Panorama and load it into the new VMs, obviously making device specific modifications since you'll be running them side-by-side.

Once the configuration is migrated (the serial numbers will come as part of the configuration) you simply point the firewalls to the new Panorama instead of the old.
