Radius Authentication issue

Not applicable

Iam configuring a new PA-500. I have set it up for Radius Authentication. When attempting to log on to the device I received the error "invalid username or password" at the Web UI screen. On the device in system logs I get the error "

User 'domain\username' failed authentication. Reason: Invalid username/password From: x.x.x.x.

On the radius server the error log displays "User was denied access Reason = Authentication was not successful because an unknown user name or incorrect password was used."

I have tried multiple accounts and we are not entering the wrong username or password. It appears that the password is being corrupted when it is passed from the Palo to the radius.

Any clues or help?

Thank you

Should be the same as 4.1 with the fields a little different.  Also you can include the groups from your RADIUS in 5.0.2

Hi...What was the format used for username?  Try using just the username instead of domain\username.  Also check the upper/lower case.Thanks.

If I just use the username the system logs on the 500 displays the following entry

User 'domain.COM\adminuser' failed authentication. Reason: Invalid username/password From: .x.x.x.x.

If I use domain\user the log diplays:

User 'domaint\adminuser' failed authentication. Reason: Invalid username/password From: x.x.x.x

Radius logs: Reason = Authentication was not successful because an unknown user name or incorrect password was used

For both attempts

I believe the issue is that the 500 is not passing the correct Fully-Qualified-User-Name

When I test the radius from a Cisco device the Fully-Qualified-User-Name displays different.

Are there instructions for interfacing with a Windows Radius?

The PA500 will pass the username to RADIUS as received via the login prompt.  Please check out this doc -

I am using 4.1.6 but I will follow the guide.

Thanks I will review the doc page by page.

I deleted my Radius config and have re-added following the guide.

it now works

Thank you,

Steve
