Two Virtual Routers

L1 Bithead

Hello,

When I configure two virtual routers on a PA-5060, how do I get them to see each others’ routes?

Do I need to configure some kind of virtual internal circuit between the two routers?

Thanks!

just add routes and select Other VR as next.

You should only add the subnets which is related to other VR.

Hi Rick,

You can define a route with next-hop as VR as shown below:

Hope it helps !

Hi Rick,

Above mentioned snap shot will work. Vrouter1 is the destination VR which holds route "192.168.1.0/24".

Let us know for further query.

"OSPF can be used for inter-VR routing provided physical interface and cabling is done between the Virtual Routers. Physical interface and cabling is required since OSPF neighbor has to be point to point or broadcast. OSPF does not support routing via static routes to its neighbor."

That's interesting -- does that mean I would need to provision a crossover ethernet cable between two physical interfaces to get OSPF working between two virtual routers?

Yes, the 2 VRs would need to have 1 physical interface each assigned for connectivity.

Hi Rick,

Crossover or Straight through, any will work. PANW will convert transmission accordingly.

Excellent -- thank you very much!

This works and it's simple.
