Hello,

does anyone know why in the Preferred Version page there is no mention of Global Protect 6.3? I asked the same question to our account manager but he cannot find an answer.

Thanks!

Hi @NicPezzi_RX ,

GlobalProtect App 6.3 has been available for a while now, but it has not been designated as a Preferred Release yet.

The “Preferred Release” label is not based on time since release — Palo Alto Networks only marks a version as preferred once there is enough field adoption and stability data across all supported platforms and deployment scenarios.

6.3 is a full supported release, so you can deploy it if you require features available only in 6.3. However, the lack of a Preferred tag means that 6.3 is not currently the recommended “default upgrade path” for broad production deployments unless you have a specific need for it.

If you are planning an upgrade, the safest approach is:

  • Stay on the latest Preferred Release unless you need features from a higher version

  • If you choose 6.3, validate it first with a pilot group before rolling out widely

The Release Guidance page is updated regularly, so once Palo Alto Networks has enough data to designate a Preferred Release for the 6.3 train (or a later release train), it will appear there without requiring action from customers.

Hope this helps — and definitely keep an eye on the Release Guidance page as it’s the authoritative source for this information.
