L1 Bithead

Hello Team,

I am planning to upgrade my Palo alto device which model number is PA-4050, current software running on that firewall is 5.0.11. I need to upgrade that in N-1 version could you please suggest the upgradation path so that I can download required images and store in my Jump box.

Hi @ANilawar ,

The latest PAN-OS version you can run on a PA-4050 is v7.1:

https://www.paloaltonetworks.com/services/support/end-of-life-announcements/hardware-end-of-life-dat...

I'm not sure if you can still find the necessary PAN-OS versions to upgrade to 7.1 ... but the upgrade path from 5.0.x would be 5.1 (Panorama only) > 6.0 > 6.1 > 7.0 > 7.1 .

For each upgrade to a new major version you should download the base version first and then download/install the latest version before moving forward with the next one.  As explained here for 10.1:

https://docs.paloaltonetworks.com/pan-os/10-1/pan-os-upgrade/upgrade-pan-os/upgrade-the-firewall-pan...

I'm not sure if you can still find versions prior to 7.1 on the support portal ... you might have to reach out to TAC.

Kind regards,

-Kim.

Hi @S.Kumar180881 ,

It depends where you want to go.

Knowing why you're upgrading and understanding the potential impacts is crucial. Maybe you’re ironing out bugs with a maintenance release or unlocking new features with a major update. Either way, your first stop should be the release notes—they’re your goldmine for all the updates and fixes.

Leverage the available resources such as the Feature Guide and Security Advisories. These tools offer detailed insights into new features, bug fixes, and security patches for each release.

Also don't forget to check out the Software Release Guidance page where you'll find the preferred releases.

You can find detailed steps of the preferred upgrade paths here:

    1. Determine the Upgrade Path to PAN-OS 10.1
    2. Determine the Upgrade Path to PAN-OS 10.2
    3. Determine the Upgrade Path to PAN-OS 11.0
    4. Determine the Upgrade Path to PAN-OS 11.1

Kind regards,

-Kim.
