Ubuntu 24.04 Frequent Network Restarts After Connecting to VPN with GlobalProtect 6.1

L0 Member

After installing GlobalProtect version 6.1.4 and connecting to the VPN, my device's network frequently restarts. This issue occurs every second, causing the network to start and stop continuously.

Details:

  • GlobalProtect Version: 6.1.4
  • Device: HP Laptop
  • OS: Ubuntu 24.04
  • Frequency of Issue: Network restarts every second after connecting to the VPN
  • Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Install GlobalProtect version 6.1.4
    2. Connect to the VPN
    3. Observe the network behavior

Impact:
This issue disrupts my network connection, making it impossible to maintain a stable connection for work or other activities. It severely impacts productivity and usability.

Steps Taken

I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  1. Restarted the device
  2. Reinstalled GlobalProtect version 6.1.4
  3. Checked for any conflicting software or network settings
  4. Verified network stability without the VPN connection (no issues observed)

Request

I kindly request guidance on how to resolve this issue. Any insights or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated. If additional logs or information are required, please let me know.

Thank you for your support.

Hi @MRAHMANRAJU ,

When your network restarts every second after connecting to the VPN, is it your GlobalProtect VPN connection that keeps reconnecting? I would check your debug logs and system logs within the fw that hosts your portal/gateway to see if anything concerning is apparent. Feel free to share those logs here as well if you can. Is this issue widespread? I would also ensure that you have a stable connection to your portal/gateway.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue than @MRAHMANRAJU.

My WiFi is very stable before using GlobalProtect.
As soon as I get GlobalProtect connected (using a token), my WiFi stops working for 1-2 seconds then gets back connected again, then gets disconnected and keeps doing that.

I have a Mac computer on which I can use the same token and on this machine, GlobalProtect works well and using the same home WiFi, I get a very stable connection to my work VPN.

I had the same issue with Ubuntu 22 and I thought it could work better than Ubuntu 24.04 so I did a clean install of Ubuntu 24.04 (erasing my whole hard drive) and I still get the same issue.

To be able to reconnect to my WiFi, I had to disconnect GlobalProtect, which till that moment said "Connected" and did not display any issue. I can disconnect it but when I try to reconnect I get the GlobalProtect window with the message: "Connection Failed. Gateway <my work server address>: Could not verify the server certificate of the gateway. If the issue persists, contact your administrator."

If my administrator allows GlobalProtect to verify the server certificate of the gateway, should that fix the issue?

Do you need any other information to give me some advice here?

I've experienced this issue as well, but only on WiFi connections. Wired connections do not have the same problem.
In any case, I found that upgrading to 6.2.1 fixed this particular issue.
