Making PA-820 quieter??

L1 Bithead
Hi,

I have an opportunity to grab one of company's Palo Alto PA-820 firewalls for free.
It would be shame to dispose of perfectly operational hardware just because topology has changed and we have no use for it anymore.

But - had one at home when I was learning PAN-OS and found it to be quite loud, and because my home lab setup in in living room - that is a big problem.
Is there  a way to make it quieter, considering that I will be running 1 comp on 24/7, up to 3 user comps during daytime and home lab will be started ocasionally?
Have not yet checked what would be home lab PAN-OS price for it, but even without updates it will be still pretty darn good solution for a while.
Regards
Rob T.

Hello,

I believe really the only option you would have would be to reduce temperature if its running hot. You wouldn't be able to manually lower the fan speed, nor would you really want to do this anyways.

You can check these commands and see if its running hot:

- show system environmentals thermal

- show system environmentals fans

Otherwise if you're able to obtain a fan less model like the PA-220 or PA-440 that may be a better option.

Hi @trybar ,

The PA-820 runs loud when only one power supply is plugged in.  If that is your issue, plug in the other power supply and it will run quieter.

Thanks,

Tom
