Session behavior when resource limit is reached.

Not applicable

Hi,

I have been checking my PA-2050 with PAN 4.0.3 and I realised about new command in sesion configuration. The exact command is:

set deviceconfig setting session resource-limit-behavior  with the options bypass and drop. Default option is drop.

I had problems in my infrastructure reaching the limit sessions. Synthax seems clear but before install PA-2050 in my old location (where I had problems reaching the limits) I would like to know if anybody has any experience with this commnad in a real enviroment, and if it is true that reaching the limits the PAN just bypass new sessions without any impact.

CLI reference guide of PAN 4.0 doesn´t give any information about this options.

Thanks.

Hi,

As far as I know it means we will bypass L7 checking/scanning in some extreme conditions such as when there is too many packet queues or there are too many packets waiting for TCP resembly. By default we will drop these packets in order to retain our security level all the time. Choosing the box by correct sizing is always the most appropriate way rather than bypassing any of the checking from the firewall aspect.
