False Positive Detection - password_manager_pro

L1 Bithead

I am an independent developer and author of the application password_manager_pro. The software has been incorrectly flagged as malicious by your engine on VirusTotal report: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/5ad3dcc377acdb0b20ccc9c23724fa889c922afa9422704d33cf4709c78fb198... with the label: Generic.ml

This is a false positive. The application is designed for local password management and does not perform any hidden or unauthorized actions. It:

  • Operates fully offline, without cloud or internet dependencies
  • Uses a local encryption key (fernet.key) unique to each user
  • Collects only the MAC address for licensing purposes
  • Does not contain scripts, telemetry, or remote access components

Sophos, Kaspersky, ESET, Avast, AVG, ZoneAlarm, Malwarebytes etc. has already reviewed and confirmed this as a false positive, and their detection has been removed. The file now appears clean on VirusTotal.

I kindly request that you review this detection and update your engine accordingly. If further information or a sample is required, I am available to provide it.

VT score is very high.  Not changing category

Yes, yesterday there were 30 detections, today we're down to 25 — thanks to vendors who don’t rely on “what others say,” but instead sit down, run the application, and perform their own lab testing. That kind of approach restores trust in the AV ecosystem. Respect to those who verify code and behavior instead of copying flags

Thank you for reaching back out.  I agree on the points you made and have requested for our internal engineering team to actually review the file in question.

Once I hear back from them, I will let you know what they say.

An antivirus vendor known for its strict heuristic detection policies has completed a laboratory analysis and issued an official statement regarding password_manager_pro. The issue has been resolved.

Their decision to review the file and acknowledge the false positive is appreciated. This sets a clear technical precedent for others.
