expedition installer fails, browsing to ip address gives me default ubuntu apache

L2 Linker

Hello.

for an on the go migration I was installing expedition on a vmware player setup on my pc.

I followed the pdf guide, and when that failed even followed the video step by step.

however I can't get expedition to work.
I installed a ubuntu 16.04 server.

I can access internet and even download the expedtion file with wget.

I run the installer and all seems to go well.

execpt: somewheren in te middle it claims not to be able to find expedtion beta.

at the end I get a failed to start (see image)

can't start.PNG

when I browse to my vm machine I load teh default ubuntu apache page..

I'm not at all a unix expert and haven't done much unix setups recently. so I'm kind of at a loss what's failing, and why. .

The repository is not available for some reason today:

Reading state information... Done

E: Unable to locate package expedition-beta

So its only displaying the apache default webserver page. as it cannot download expedition.

Hey @GNeyrinck

Do you know if they updated the repository? Because i tried installing the tool today and had lot of failures of downloads when trying to connect to a conversionupdates.paloaltonetworks.com, therefore installation doesn't complete, would love to see if someone can provide with the files to install and start testing the tool.

Regards

Hi,

I could download the installer, but the install didn't complete successfully.

I also had numerous errors during the installation.

I'm only getting the Ubuntu default login page of the webserver after the install finished.

Regards,

Gerrit

Do you have internet connection for this Ubuntu device?

This is a mandatory requirement to be able to download all the required packages.

Notice also that if your VM is accessing via a proxy, the proxy should allow some specific connections to download the packages.

You can review the installer to identify the packages that are installed and the debian repositories that will be used.

Yes, it has full internet access and there's no proxy involved.

And do you have more detailed information regarding the error messages that you are getting during the installation?

This is one of the errors:

So it stil seems that the repository isn't ok

Is this log recent or from several days ago (when the servers were down)?

The repository should be up and the package accessible

Just started from scratch again 2 hours ago.

Hello all,

To be honest to you guys, it seems that downloading the .tar version to install is obsolete, in the same webpage there is a link to download a VM, i downloaded that and installed it and it worked like a charm.

Hope this helps because on the standard installation running the InitSetup.h is not working anymore but VM works immediatly.

Regards

Hi,

Do you mean the "Legacy VM" on this page:

https://live.paloaltonetworks.com/t5/Expedition-Migration-Tool/ct-p/migration_tool

Or?

Regards,

Hello @GNeyrinck ,

Yes indeed, its the Legacy Expedition VM, because going with the "Get the expedition installer" is not working anymore.

Regards

Please, try the installer again.

It should be available again.

Hello @dgildelaig,

Just tested running initsetup.h again and got the same issue:
