Welcome to Always Innovating Network Security - August 2024 edition. We have some exciting news on Quantum security with standardization of new Quantum Safe algorithms announced by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  This month we also announce the expansion of the PA-400 Series and PA-400R Series (ruggedized NGFWs) with two new NGFWs. And AI Runtime Security is now available on Google Cloud. Read on…

  • Palo Alto Networks Quantum Safe VPN Supports New NIST Standards and Enables Crypto-Agility - On August 13, the U.S. Government formally announced the standardization of three new encryption algorithms designed to resist the more sophisticated cyberattacks expected with the emergence of quantum computers. These new post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) algorithm standards, and additional PQCs yet to come, will eventually replace the classic encryption methods that have served as a foundational underpinning of modern cybersecurity for decades, but are predicted to become vulnerable within the next 10 years. Every Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) running the latest PAN-OS, supports the three new PQC standard algorithms. In addition, our latest PAN-OS supports several other emerging, nonstandard PQC algorithms, providing our customers with cryptographic agility for future encryption needs. For more details, see our blog on this announcement and refer to the TechDocs on Quantum Security.

  • PA-415-5G, and the PA-410R-5G appliances - Recently, we announced two new offerings for our entry-level product line, the PA-415-5G and its ruggedized counterpart, the PA-410R-5G. These appliances offer similar performance and features as their non 5G counterparts, but have the added 5G connectivity feature. 5G connectivity can be used as primary or backup to the SFP Fiber connection. Additionally 5G offers dual SIM slots for built-in redundancy. You can learn more about the new 5G feature in this video here. The PA-410-5G also offers an optional second power supply,  on-box logging, and is IP65 compliant.

Refer to the PA-400 Series Hardware Reference for more details on the PA-415-5G. You can also see the PA-415-5G Quick Start Guide.

Refer to the PA-400R Series Hardware Reference for more details on the PA-410R-5G. You can also see the PA-410R-5G Quick Start Guide.

  • AI Runtime Security, now GA on Google Cloud - On July 31, we announced the General Availability of AI Runtime Security for Google Cloud using BYOL deployments for customers with FW-Flex credits. AI Runtime Security discovers and protects AI applications, models and data from threats that applications deployed in the cloud have not traditionally faced. It discovers the entire AI application ecosystem including applications, models, datasets, users, plug-ins, and internet connections across all cloud environments, and defends these applications against emerging AI threats. We will also be announcing the product GA for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure in the coming weeks. Learn more in our recent blog post
