Power over Ethernet, or POE, is a newer feature on our entry-level firewalls. These appliances are built to service branch offices and retail stores for our enterprise customers and small to mid-sized businesses of all kinds. POE adds flexibility and the ability to add up to 4 POE enabled devices to their network.
Many small offices and stores are located in areas that can’t be re-wired for additional electrical outlets easily and the cost of hiring an electrician and getting permits can be prohibitively expensive. POE solves this issue by being able to add devices like WiFi access points and security cameras easily and quickly, without a technician. Those devices get their power directly from the ethernet cable that is connected to the firewall already, rather than an additional AC power cord.
Many of our customers choose a firewall model with POE for future expansion in mind. Many businesses move into a larger space and need additional appliances. Why not take the firewall with you and simply add a few more devices to meet your needs? Business needs change and POE is one of the features on our firewalls that accommodate these changes, saving you time and money over the life of the device.
Models with POE include some models of the PA-400 Series and both models of the PA-1400 Series. They all offer 4 ports of POE and a generous power allowance to meet your current and future needs. For further information on POE in our devices, check out our POE Video.
