How to perform OCR image checks for DLP patterns and its integration with SaaS Security API.How to perform OCR image checks for DLP patterns and its integration with SaaS Security API.

Optical character recognition or optical character reader (OCR) is the electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text. This could be from a scanned document, a photo of a document, a scene-photo (e.g. the text on signs and billboards) or from subtitle text superimposed on an image, such as a television broadcast.

This new feature is configured in Enterprise DLP cloud portal and functions for Prisma Access or on-prem firewalls with the Panorama Plug-in. The OCR file scan is done in the cloud, as it is a taxing/demanding service.

The Palo Alto SaaS Security API now also includes OCR, which is a great way to detect hidden text in images that can be inspected by the enterprise DLP. The Palo Alto SaaS API Security works with on-prem firewalls as well as with the Prisma Access Cloud offering.

The OCR feature fits in at the ''Text Extraction'' part, just before the ''Pattern Matching (DLP),'' as shown below:

This new OCR feature integration with SaaS Security API is described in the new features for August in TechDoc..

OCR for SaaS Security API uplifts your security posture and further prevents accidental data misuse, loss, or theft by scanning images for sensitive content.
