Difference between Summary database vs Detailed logs on Custom Report

L2 Linker

Hi everyone,

I have a question about what difference between Summary database vs Detailed logs on Custom Report

 - When we create a report, if we use the Summary database in many of the conditions that we created, We found that when we press Run Now, the data cannot be displayed. But if we use Detailed Logs, the results can be displayed normally.

- What is the difference between these two? We tried to find information or documents but didn't find much that was helpful.

Hope you guys can help me. Thank you very much.

Hi @Sitthichai ,

The difference is pretty straightforward:

  • Summary databases —These databases are available for Application Statistics, Traffic, Threat, URL Filtering, and Tunnel Inspection logs. The firewall aggregates the detailed logs at 15-minute intervals. To enable faster response time when generating reports, the firewall condenses the data: duplicate sessions are grouped and incremented with a repeat counter, and some attributes (columns) are excluded from the summary.
  • Detailed logs
—These databases itemize the logs and list all the attributes (columns) for each log entry.  Reports based on detailed logs take much longer to run and are not recommended unless absolutely necessary.

If you're experiencing inconsistent behaviour running the reports I'd recommend collecting the GUI debug logs:
