Hi Community,
My customer plan to upgrade their PAN OS from 10.1 to 11.1
From documentation said, You can now use the Skip Software Version Upgrade feature to skip software versions when upgrading your device from PAN-OS 10.1 or later releases.
What is skip software version upgrade?, How to use it? so that I can go direct upgrade to 11.1 without install 10.2 and 11.0 first, because when I click that link, error 404 Page Not Found
Sorry if my question is very basicly
Thank you.
Regards,
Heru

Your understanding is correct.
If you use legacy way to upgrade, you need to follow the steps as below: (describe this for comparison purpose)
1. download 10.2.0 (base image) and 10.2.x (latest) ** system is running on 10.1.x
2. install 10.2.x and reboot the system
3. download 11.0.0 (base image) and 11.0.x (latest)
4. install 11.0.x and reboot the system
5. download 11.1.0 (base image) and 11.1.x (latest)
6. install 11.1.x and reboot the system
With new feature, you can done by only two steps:
1. download 11.1.0 (base image) and 11.1.x (latest) ** system is running on 10.1.x
2. install 11.1.x and reboot the system
You don't need any technique or preparation (I mean commands) for it. Just download and install, then reboot.

Hi @H.Sutanto ,
In PAN-OS 11.0, you can now skip up to three software versions when upgrading or downgrading standalone devices or Panorama managed devices running PAN-OS 10.1 or a later release. This feature builds on the Simplified Software Upgrade process introduced in PAN-OS 10.2, which includes capabilities such as a multi-image download option and a pre-install validation check, to make the upgrade process even faster.
Kind regards,
-Kim.

Hi Kiwi,
Sorry, I still don't understand yet,
In PAN-OS 11.0, you can now skip up to three software versions when upgrading or downgrading standalone devices or Panorama managed devices running PAN-OS 10.1 or a later release. <===== What I understand, it support PAN-OS 10.1 or later to direct upgrade to 11.1
But in the second line, This feature builds on the Simplified Software Upgrade process introduced in PAN-OS 10.2, which includes capabilities such as a multi-image download option and a pre-install validation check, to make the upgrade process even faster.
this mean PAN-OS 10.1 doesn't have this feature.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thank you

Hi Emr_1,
Thank you for your reply,
I just knew that we can download base image (11.1.0) and latest image (11.1.x) then only install 11.1.x
What I read from documentation I need to install base image first then reboot, after that install latest image then reboot.
So, it can installation 11.1.0 can be skipped right? only install 11.1.x, as long as I have download both OS (base and latest)
Thank you

Hello, If I can reuse this topic to ask a further question.
I have similar situation but we'll also migrate from a 3220 pair in HA to a 1420 pair in HA.
We are currently on 10.1.10-h2
The 1420 came out-of-the-box with 11.0.
I asume I can import configuration on them and update to 11.1.2?

Hello,
I don't see PAN-OS 11.0.4 anywhere mentioned. What is the date it was released?
TIA

Hi Jsmoove,
PAN-OS 11.0.4 has been released a week ago.
Have you click check now from your PAN?

What is "legacy way" compared with "new feature"?

Hi ,
Is this process applicable to firewall on HA? or is it only for single firewalls with No HA.
Also can we can skip downgrades like this?
05-19-2024 05:54 PM
Hi,
yes, this process applicable on HA, I have done.
05-20-2024 05:36 PM
I described to upgrade by each minor version like 9.1->10.0->10.1 as "legacy"
05-20-2024 05:45 PM
The answer for both questions is yes.
I'll attach the evidence log that shows combination of 10.1.11-h4 and 11.1.2-h1 (keeps active and passive state) as below.
For downgrade, skip works between 11.1 and 10.1.3. For more details see url below.
