Published on ‎04-22-2021 10:43 AM by | Updated on ‎11-23-2021 01:37 PM

Recording now available!

What is the Best Practice Assessment Tool (BPA) and how do I use it?

In addition to an overview of the components of the tool and the interface, as an attendee you will learn how to use it to compare existing policies and configurations with best practices, assess the maturity and effectiveness of your security posture, and see how you are applying your security policies across the organization.

Agenda:

  • How to access the BPA
  • Create a BPA
  • How to use the BPA to identify security gaps
  • Help improve your security posture

Join us to exchange experiences, as well as the best practices in using the BPA for Next-Generation Firewalls and Panorama.

Question & Answer (Q&A) Highlights

Q: Where is the BPA data stored? (asked by Kelly Welch)

A: Only metadata is stored by Palo Alto Networks to track adoption trends and industry benchmarks. However, we do not store rule details or any sensitive customer information.

Question & Answer (Q&A) Highlights

Q: Is there an example of BPA Prisma Access that you could share with me? (asked by @MonicaR )

A: Nick Curtis (@DawgsFan) answered this at 22:21 in the recording (see above). Under BPA report types, choose Prisma Access. It defaults to Strata.

Question & Answer (Q&A) Highlights

Q: Are there plans for a “BPA on steroids” version so VARs can add more value to running the BPA vs the customer running it themselves (integration with autoassistant to find bugs etc.)? (asked by @reaper )

A: We have a very large BPA roadmap to expand capabilities, where it is accessed from, filtering options and more. If you have any questions or new feature enhancements, please reach out to us at bpa@paloaltonetworks.com

Question & Answer (Q&A) Highlights

Q: How do you save the detailed HTML page? (asked by @GregTaylor )

A: When you generate the BPA, you will receive the detailed html in the BPA bundle. The bundle will Include your detailed html, failed best practice checks and a copy of your executive summary. The Executive summary will be saved internally, but it is recommended that you save all of the contents in your bundle locally for access. We don’t save it internally due to security and privacy.
