Pre-Site Survey

L1 Bithead

hello

I am preparing to go to site for a PA 440 install

Q has anyone used a pre site capture document that could be sent to the customer ahead of the install ?

for example a best practice document to capture

number of zones

security features

etc

@paloaltousername,

These are questions that I would expect to be answered prior to the installation, usually during initial fact finding prior to  even putting together the SoW. Do you have a copy of the current configuration on the present firewall? What is the customers expectation of successful deployment? Do they expect you to just replicate the configuration from one firewall to the PA-440 without any changes, or are you meant to actually "palotize" the present configuration to make full use of the PA-440? Is this a PAN -> PAN migration or are you migration the current configuration from another firewall vendor to the PA-440?

thank you for your help

this is a new installation --> new site with no existing firewall - I have taken over from another project team - yes I would expect this type of information to have been gathered . I was also interested in learning if there is a Best Practice Capture document that is available for use

@paloaltousername,

There's nothing that PAN directly publishes for consumers to capture this information. I'd personally start with customer expectations of the installation and move on to current firewall configuration in the event that they expect this to be anywhere near a drop-in replacement. Once you have their expectations of successful migration and how the present firewall is configured you'll have at least an idea of what's going to be needed.
