GP continues reconnection attempts & shows "notifications" after explicit disconnect

L0 Member

App version: 6.2.3-270

User's steps:

  1. Connect or just try to connect
  2. Explicitly disconnect via burger button -> disconnect / cancel button.

Current behavior:

  1. tries to reconnect
  2. shows popup for OTP
  3. tray icon is blinking

Expected: GP does nothing.

Hi @a.tahmazian ,

Can you verify how widespread the issue is? Is this isolated to a single user? Certain OS experiencing issues (windows/mac)? This will be helpful to know if it is a specific client issue.

After disconnecting can you try restarting the GlobalProtect client to see if the reconnection attempts stop. I would take a look at your app config on the Portal and also try increasing "Automatic Restoration of VPN Connection Timeout (min)" to max and "Wait Time Between VPN Connection Timeout (min)" to max to see if that helps.

Update: my previous statement was a bit inaccurate,  "burger button -> disconnect" works fine, though it's unavailable most of the time(grey icon).

I've attached video:

1. During connection process(OTP code popup) only "Cancel button" is available, which frankly do nothing (auto retry happens immediately)

2. After few "cancel" actions it goes to "failed state" and then starts connection process again.

Issues:

1. Cancel button works in unexpected way.

2. Burger button disabled during connection process (imho for no reason).

3. User have no control over "reconnection / retry on failure" behavior. I guess it's somewhat configurable via "admin app" which I have no access to, and if it's the case, personally I don't know why it's delegated to a admins when it's obviously should be "end user configurable" or at least there should be option to override admin's setup on client side.

Overall problem is not critical(rather QoL) there is a way/workaround to escape "infinite connection loop" issue via  "burger button -> disconnect", though it's a bit inconvenient and hard to discover.

P.S. Answer to Jay:

1. I can test only on my PC so I can't provide info about "isolation"

2. As I already mentioned I have no access to admin app so can't try suggested config changes. Well, I can reach our admins though now I classify issue as QoL(non critical) so I don't wanna bother them with it, at least before I discuss it here on forum.
